Guillermo Silva

Luna Nueva - Signed lithographic print #100/150

Luna Nueva - Signed lithographic print #100/150

I’ve just acquired two, framed lithographic prints by Columbian artist Guillermo Silva.

If you’re not familiar with Silva’s work, you can read about this international artist here. Guillermo Silva passed on June 27, 2007.

These are lithographic prints and are professionally mounted, matted and framed. “Luna Llena” is print #2/150 and “Luna Nueva” is print #100/150. Both prints are signed by the artist.

The images of the prints are obscurred by reflections of the camera tripod and ambient light in the room.  These prints have to be seen in person to appreciate the detail and bright colors of the work.

The prints are being offered for sale at $995 each and can be viewed during regular business hours or by appointment at Grezzo Gallery.

Bart's Art ad for the NEG

Bart's Art ad for the NEG

I’m running a new ad (left) on page seven in the Northfield Entertainment Guide. You can page through the Guide online and check out all the scheduled entertainment for the month of August.

I’m looking for salable original fine art that I can display for sale at Grezzo Gallery in Northfield, offer for sale in my eBay store, or sell directly to other collectors. If you have framed original fine art that you no longer display and would consider selling it, give me a call. If I think your artwork is salable, I will take it on consignment, clean it up and repair the frame package if necessary (at my own expense) and offer it for sale. We can discuss terms and pricing and I’ll give you a signed consignment agreement. In some cases, I may be able to purchase your artwork outright.

Dean Warnholtz

Knight by Dean Warnholtz

I have just acquired two Dean Warnholtz signed, limited edition lithographic prints: “Knight” (detail pictured), 1966 (#7 in an edition of 16 total) and “Verbena,” a more recent lithograph from 1978, #6 in an edition of 10 total prints. Check out the Gallery section to see the entire print. The prints came to me framed. I’ve opened the frame packages and remounted one of the prints (the other was fine) with conservation mounting board and added conservation glazing to both frame packages. The frame sizes are approximately 34″ x 24″ (Knight) and 34″ x 27″ (Verbena.) The photos I took today have a lot of background reflection in them, so come into Grezzo Gallery to see these beautiful prints in person.

Dean Warnholtz was born in Sioux City, Iowa and earned his B.A. and M.F.A. degrees at the State University of Iowa. He came to Carleton College in Northfield, MN in 1949 and was a popular member of the faculty for 33 years. An accomplished artist in several mediums, Warnholtz won numerous prizes and purchase awards for his paintings. He participated in many one-man and group exhibitions at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Sioux City Art Center, the Schlier Gallery in Denver, the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, and at Carleton and other institutions in the Midwest. On sabbatical leave from Carleton during the 1955-56 academic year, Warnholtz spent several months in Mexico, where he studied lithography at the San Miguel de Allende Instituto, and in Sioux City, where he was commissioned to paint a mural for the Third Presbyterian Church. He studied at the Hayter Atelier in Paris in 1975. He also studied traditional woodblock printing techniques in Japan and created a series of murals honoring the scientific contributions of Carleton’s President Emeritus Lawrence M. Gould.

In addition to Robert McCall’s photographs, Grezzo Gallery is showing five new paintings by Melody Libson and Eli Libson. I’ve also hung an assortment of work by a number of local, regional and international artists, including Joe Byrne, Marvin Hill, Fernando Llort, Martin Ocana, Jil Evans, Marc F. Johnson, Wendell Arneson, Dean Warnholtz, John Maakestad, T.L. Lange, A. DeVity, Russell Chatham, Fred Somers and Mike Lynch. I have a few items displayed from my collection of posters from the 1960s and plan to have additional posters from the collection for sale as I get them framed. I just received two, framed Dean Warnholtz prints and will have those on display as soon as I can check the framing materials and bring everything up to conservation levels. Please check out the gallery link at the top of the page. I’ve put up some new photos of the gallery that I shot earlier this week.

Marvin Hill

The Art of Living by Marvin Hill

The Art of Living — This print, by artist Marvin Hill, has an image measuring 4 1/2″ x 5 3/4″ and a unique, fabric frame measuring 11″ x 13″. This is a blockprint, which begins with a drawing on a flat block of wood or linoleum. Using very sharp tools, the image is cut into the block, carving away what will be white space and leaving the line. A thin layer of oil-based ink is added to the block’s surface, and then the image is printed onto paper using a hand-pulled sign press. Watercolor is then added. The fabric frame, which is soft to the touch, has a similar appearance to the cushion material used by persons who meditate in a seated fashion. This print is numbered (#29/35) and signed by the artist. Information about the art of Martin Hill can be viewed at marvinhill.com

This framed print is available for sale at Grezzo Gallery. The price is $125.
